For many Vancouverites the polar bear pit is a place of fond childhood/family memories from when visiting the Stanley Park Zoo but as a space it is now forgotten and almost lost to the Old wood forest. In its current condition {2013} it sits as a monument of dystopian iconography and it is no surprise it has been used as a location in the recent adaptation of the Planet of the Apes; a novel from the early 1960’s about a post-apocalyptic future as commentary on mans savage animal-like state.
